The
H2-CTRIO is our new High Speed I/O module for DL205 control systems. It
will work with the D2-240 and D2-250 CPUs, all versions of the
H2-EBC, the H2-PBC, and all versions of the WinPLCs.
The
module has four counter / timer input resources that can be independently
configured in a wide variety of ways. Here are some of the more
popular configurations available:
- 2
quadrature inputs, each with an external reset and a count
inhibit
- 4
high speed up or down counters, each with an external reset
- 4
Pulse Catch Inputs that can capture a pulses as small as 25µSec
- 4
Edge Triggered Timers that calculate elapsed time between
pulses from the same input at 1 µSec resolution
- 2
Dual Edge Timers that calculate elapsed time between pulses
from different inputs at 1 µSec resolution
The
module also has 4 outputs that can be independently configured.
They can be setup as either simple discrete outputs that are controlled
by preset tables in the CTRIO, or they can be setup as pulse outputs
suitable for stepper motor control. Here are a couple of ways
they can be configured:
- 4
discrete outputs
- 2
pulse train outputs for stepper motor control. You
can define pulse train output profiles as trapezoids, S-curves
(symmetrical or asymmetrical ), or dynamic positioning.
The
CTRIO Workbench uses a graphical interface to setup the different
operational modes. You'll simply use the configuration dialogs
to define the inputs, outputs and tables the way you want and
the tool will write the settings to the module's FLASH memory.
There's even a diagnostic and testing interface (Monitor I/O)
that lets you check out your wiring and setup!
Depending
on the configuration, the CTRIO can automatically compute some
values based on the incoming pulses, e.g. RPM, acceleration, etc.
These values are computed as part of the module's normal operation
and are available to the controlling CPU as often as needed.
The
cool thing is that you can't create a configuration that won't
work, CTRIO Workbench tool won't let you define operational parameters
that are incompatible. Here's a few screen shots of the configuration
dialogs:

2002 (~1.06Mb)
Release 1.1 Beta fixes some Workbench startup problems when used
under Windows XP.
NOTE:
If you are using the CTRIO module with Automationdirect.com PLCs
(D2-240 / D2-250), you MUST already have DirectSOFT32 3.0c installed.
You will also need to apply the latest software upgrade service
pack 71 or above
